When searching for a master’s in nursing online degree, finding the right one can be overwhelming. More and more colleges and universities are now offering degree programs online. Due to the number of people who would like to return to college, but who do not have the time, colleges have decided to take advantage of the internet and offer classes as well as degree programs. There are a few criteria to look for when deciding on the right online program. Since many of these programs will take at least a year to complete, it is wise to find one that will enable to person to learn as much as possible.

An online program that offers different options is always worth looking into when trying to find the right program. Some master’s in nursing online degrees offer programs for those who want to pursue a career in nursing administration or a program in nursing education. Having different track choices opens up more options for those wishing to further their careers. Also, find a program that has advisors that can be contacted by phone. If a person is unsure about which track, they can call an advisor and get some advice. Advisors should be available by phone or by email.

More and more colleges are offering online programs for nurses who want to go into other areas within nursing such as forensic science, law, and care planning. These areas are relatively new and offer more options. A master’s in nursing online degree in one of these fields will enable to person to use new skills and learn about the latest technology that they can then use in the field. The right online program should offer options, have advisors that can advise students, and also expose students to fields in nursing they might not have considered before. Returning to school should be the opportunity to explore other areas of nursing. With the right online program, this can be possible.

There are a variety of methods that can be applied in the area of homeschooling. The method you select will have an impact on the curriculum and style of teaching. The following are some of the most popular homeschooling methods.

The Charlotte Mason method is named after Charlotte Mason, who is known as the originator of the homeschooling movement. She herself was a homeschooler, and she wanted to establish a basic plan for a complete and effective homeschooling program. The Charlotte Mason method emphasizes poetry, fine arts, classical music, crafts, and classical literature. This method is designed to encourage an awareness of literature and involves reading to the child every day. The child is then asked to tell what he or she has heard. This starts at the age of six. By the age of ten, the child is expected to write narrations in a book. Mason encouraged the use of nature diaries as well. The child writes observations of nature in the book as well. This creates a sense of respect for the environment in the child. Mason thought that good behavior and character were critical for a child’s complete personality development.

The Eclectic Homeschooling method is a combination of several techniques. Innovative parents rely on their own judgment to select topics that make up the curriculum for their own child. These parents are always looking for the best products they can find to help them meet the needs of their home schoolers. Many of the curricula in this method are improvised. This means that, while the basic curriculum is established, parents change it to adapt to the individual needs and interests of their children. The curriculum is generally established according to the temperament, learning style, and interests of the children. These programs typically include visits to libraries, factories, and museums.

John Holt, a public educator in Boston, developed the ‘unschooling’ method. Holt believed that children learn best when they learn at their own pace and are guided by their own interests. He wanted to ‘unschool’ the child by requiring parents to take their cues from the children. This approach has no set curriculum, schedules, or materials. It is the most unstructured of the homeschooling techniques.

The Montessori method had its start in Italy. It was found that children go through extremely sensitive periods in which they experience periods of intense concentration. In these phases, children will repeat an action until they receive some measure of self-satisfaction from it. This method relies on prepared environments to facilitate learning. All materials utilized in this method are meant to satisfy the child’s interior desire for spiritual development. Materials for this method range from simple to complex, and they are relatively costly.

Whatever method is selected, the underlying concept is flexibility and a strong interest in the child’s own desires. The key is to use children’s desire for knowledge to further their education.

In order to maintain licensure or certification, those in the nursing profession need to complete continuing education courses, also known as CEUs, or Continuing Education Units. Many CEU programs are available online, which makes obtaining CEUs much easier for many people. If you are new to online education, this introduction to online nursing continuing education will point you in the right direction.

Organizations to Know

The first stop along the introduction to online nursing continuing education is important organizations to know. One is the American Nurses Credentialing Center, or ANCC. This organization is the leading nursing credentialing organization in the U.S. When investigating continuing education courses, whether online or otherwise, an ANCC certified program is a good option. Information is available at http://www.nursingworld.org/ancc/

Another organization with useful information for nurses seeking CEUs is the American Nurses Association, or ANA. Their website is http://www.nursingworld.org/.

Types of CEUs

The next stop in the introduction to online nursing continuing education is the available options. One of the more exciting parts about CEUs is that you can find courses on virtually any aspect of nursing. If you specialize, you can choose CEUs that are directly related to your field. This option also allows you to learn about areas where you are not as familiar and want additional information or a “refresher” course on a certain aspect of nursing.

Be advised, however, that some states require that you complete certain CEUs. Before you choose only programs of interest, check with your state to determine if you need to complete a mandatory program first.

Accreditation

When choosing online CEU options, choose a provider that is accredited. You also need to be sure you understand what is required to earn the CEUs. Some online providers offer CEUs free of charge, but before you choose one of these options, ensure that the course meets all of your requirements.

While you still need to conduct thorough research into any CEU provider you are contemplating, this introduction to online nursing continuing education will help you get started.

The Internet has created a number of ways to make our lives more convenient. One important, and growing way, is through online education. This method of learning is extremely popular, and many respected, quality schools offer online learning options. If you are interested in learning at home, consider an online nursing degree college to prepare you for a career in health care.

The Forecast

The health care field is one area where jobs are expected to continue to grow. The medical field offers employment opportunities for many different personality types. Within nursing, there are many choices as well. People interested in the nursing field can incorporate a desire to help others with an interest in technology, medical advances, and management. A nurse may desire to work in a maternity wing in a hospital, in a hospice program helping people die in peace, or anywhere in between where quality health care is needed.

Salaries for nurses vary by degree, but start in the $30,000 range and go up. If you are interested in learning at home, consider an online nursing degree college that offers any type of nursing degree, from a basic entry-level degree such as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to a PhD in health care. For those wanting a nursing degree option with a lot of flexibility, a Registered Nurse (RN) option is one that will allow graduates to work in a range of settings with a higher level of responsibilities. Master’s programs in nursing are abundant online, and provide an excellent opportunity to further one’s career.

Learning at Home

If you are interested in learning at home, consider an online nursing degree to enter an exciting and growing career in health care. Online programs are convenient, of high quality, and provide an opportunity for learning to those who do not live near a school offering a desired nursing program. Educational opportunities online are demanding and rigorous, and you will leave with a high quality education. With some research, you can find the perfect online program to meet your needs.

The pros and cons of homeschooling are many, but do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? With total control over your child’s homeschooling needs you have the flexibility to teach your child values that cannot be taught in a public classroom. On the other hand your time will not be as free as it used to be.

The education a child can gain from a loving and concerned parent will be much greater than is possible to receive in a public school system. You don’t need a teaching credential or even a college degree, just the desire to give your child a quality education. If there are subjects that you don’t feel comfortable teaching it is possible to hire a tutor for those classes. And on the positive side your home school curriculum can incorporate other things such as your own religious and moral beliefs, something that will not be taught in a public school system. By taking control of a child’s education a parent can shape that child’s value system better than anyone else.

There are two main requirements necessary to achieve a rewarding home schooling experience for both you and your child. Obviously you must have a desire to teach your children, that is number one. If you are doing it out of duty or obligation you may soon find yourself in way over your head and wanting to get out. The second requirement is determination. You must truly want your child to succeed and be willing to put forth the time and effort it takes for your child to reach his or her potential. With these two ingredients your child may be able to realize an education that could not be achieved in a public classroom.

You, more than anyone else, want your child to reach their full potential. This is usually not possible in a crowded classroom environment. A child, to learn at their best, must have one-on-one instruction from someone who truly cares for them. And who better than you can give that to them? Public school teachers are overwhelmed by the sheer number of students they must control every day. With the many different learning styles, discipline problems, regulations that need to be followed and other factors a public school teacher cannot spend the individual time with each child that is necessary to bring out that child’s best. Home schooling can help children to blossom and bring out a child’s full potential like nothing else can.

Do you have doubts about your ability to teach? All you have to do to overcome your fear is to visit a public classroom for a day. Visit a kindergarten class or a first grade class and you will see that much of the time spent is merely controlling the children’s behavioral problems. And the lessons that are taught are usually very simple. In a one-on-one home atmosphere you will be able to progress at your own pace.

With a few home school books and lesson plans you will be able to get started very easily. Remember, you are starting your teaching experience with a very young child. And you will actually be able to learn as you go. With a little preparation it is possible to grow with your child. And the first time you see some of your instruction sink into your child’s brain you will feel satisfied that you are performing a very important task. You will surely be surprised at how effective you can be as your child’s homeschool instructor.

Public school teachers have their curriculum all laid out for them. They must follow programs and use materials that others have already approved for them. They must also move at a predetermined pace so that they can get through their study programs even if it means going forward at the expense of a child understanding what has been taught. You, on the other hand, can come up with your own homeschooling curriculum which can include religious or moral beliefs. You can take a field trip anytime you desire. You can make sure your child fully grasps a specific subject before moving forward. This will allow your child the opportunity to learn as they should be learning and at a pace they can keep up with. In a public system the slower children are often left behind.

There are negatives as well as positives however. The biggest negative to home schooling is your time. Your child will most likely receive a more rewarding education at home, but you will be devoting lots of your time to this cause. This could be a big sacrifice, especially if you are struggling financially and need to work. However, with a real desire you may be able to live without luxuries that will give you the time you need to offer your child the education they deserve. Search the internet for lesson plans, other pros and cons, christian home schooling information, home schooling requirements, home schooling books, eclectic homeschooling and other topics of interest. After researching this subject you may find that teaching your child will be even more rewarding for you than it is for your child. If you would like to develop a special bond with your child homeschooling may be the way.

With countless online university offers fighting for your attention online, one of your first priorities in finding a university is to verify its credentials. Accreditation can make all the difference in the quality of the education being offered. It isn’t enough that a university is accredited. Find out more details about the accreditation. It should be legitimate and have recognition from the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Accreditation.

What Is Accreditation

The US Department of Education has identified key points in ensuring the accreditation of an online university. Firstly, the institution needs to be able to meet established standards. They should also offer assistance to students in identifying the right colleges and finding out the details of transfer credits. The college should have set goals for self-improvement and increasing educational standards. Faculty and staff needs to be involved in institutional evaluation and planning. Criteria should be in place for availing federal financial assistance.

Accreditation is defined as a voluntary, non-governmental process of peer review by which an institution meets specific standards. However in layman’s language, it is more practical to think of it as the difference between a degree and the job that you’ve been striving for, and a waste of time, energy and money into a course that will eventually prove worthless.

Today’s employers are already pressed for time. This means they can spare very little of it in verifying the qualifications of a potential candidate. Therefore they find it much simpler and more practical to only consider applicants qualifying from an accredited institution whose standards they deem acceptable.

Types of Accreditation

Accreditation of a college can itself be of two types, institutional and specialized accreditation. The former applies to the institution as a whole to ensure that it is able to conform to certain set standards. In specialized accreditation, it is only a particular program that is involved for being able to meet specific industry standards.

Institutional accreditation is again of two types, national and regional. National accreditation transfer credits are not easily accepted by colleges and universities as it implies inability to meet criteria for regional accreditation. National accreditation is primarily limited to institutes that prepare students to join the workforce at the earliest. They include religious schools, technical institutes, vocational and correspondence schools.

On the other hand regional accreditation is recognized not just by the US Department of Education but is also considered the standard for other colleges and universities. Transferring college credits becomes a lot easier as the college meets the necessary standards with a combination of theory and practical experience. In certain cases like engineering, law, medicine, science and teaching, the degree needs to be both institutionalized and specialized in accreditation.

Which would be easier for you to memorize?

1.) The entire New York telephone book
2.) A small nursery rhyme

If you picked #1, please go away!

Scientific studies have shown that we learn best by absorbing small morsels of information, applying them in a practical manner, then building on what we know. As we add more chunks of information our minds correlate, collate, and link everything, referring back to previously learned facts to form a comprehensive sphere of knowledge.

What does this mean to you?

Don’t tackle a huge book of foreign language grammar or prose as an early learning project. Begin with smaller projects.

For example, you could start with a few paragraphs of a novel – memorizing the vocabulary – and proceeding to the next few paragraphs.

Why not choose the most widely published book in the world?

Even if you’re not a Christian, the Bible can be an invaluable tool for learning the foreign language of your choice. It is published in more languages than any other book, and there is a plethora of internet resources with complete texts available for FREE download.

Many foreign language Bible sites have FREE audio clips as well.

‘But the Bible is full of ‘thees’ and ‘thous’ and outdated language that nobody uses any longer.’

You’re right! The King James version would NOT be a good learning tool for anyone trying to learn English. However, there are many translations in modern English – and that is also the case with foreign languages.

Use your favorite search engine to do searches like ‘modern Bible translation French’, ‘modern Bible translation German’, or ‘modern Bible translation Spanish’. Do your research and find out what is available for the language you are learning.

Start with some of the smaller chapters and work up to the larger ones.

Make up a vocabulary list and memorize a few words at a time. If you need help with some difficult phrases, find an online foreign language forum and post a question. Most forums are full of helpful native speakers who will do their utmost to help you understand subtle nuances and connotations.

Download the audio clips, save them to your hard drive, and listen to them repeatedly – either on your computer’s sound system or a portable audio player. Repeat the words softly as you listen, paying meticulous attention to pronunciation. Progress slowly to speaking in a normal voice along with the narrator.

A good method is to start with the Psalms and Proverbs. Each chapter is a standalone piece of prose. Begin with the smallest and work through to the larger pieces.

There is a link at the end of this article to a page that has the chapters of both books listed in order – from smallest to largest. The same page also points to a couple of Bible servers on the internet, as well as a Wiki page with information and background on translations in several languages.

The second link is to a useful search engine page that has several search engines listed.

Remember: baby steps first – and repetition – repetition – repetition. That’s the way babies learn. As adults it’s still the best way for us to learn.

Good luck with your foreign language education. It can be as much fun as you want to make it!

Education is failing in the United States. By saying this, I know that I join the ranks of the self-appointed Cassandra’s who hurl our hands up to our foreheads and sing the doom of a nation. But it’s true.

And most of the wailers miss the point. Underlying the political agendas, funding battles, culture wars, and the simultaneous disrespect for and outrageous expectations of teachers, there is a much deeper failure.

Think of a moment in your life when you were completely caught up in learning something. In that moment, learning wasn’t about facts, tests or grades, succeeding or failing. Instead, it was an all-consuming, joyful burst of energy and pleasure at finally discovering something. Of understanding something. To borrow from Shakespeare, it was an instance of god-like apprehension, comprehension of our place as partners in a creative universe.

How often have you had a moment like that in your educational process? If you’re like most people, pretty rarely. Somewhere along the line, education became a consumerist contest of amassing skills and factoids and spewing them back to the world like game show geeks. But when we become glorified databases, we lose the analytical abilities that keep us from being engulfed by systems (be they political, religious, societal, or media) without bothering to ask if they should exist at all. We have all of the pieces out of the puzzle box and arrayed on the table, but we don’t have a picture to follow.

And that’s what we’re missing: the picture. The image. The imagining. Our failure is a failure of imagination, both in what we teach and how we teach it, but also, far more importantly, a failure to understand that education is ultimately about imagination itself.

When we become imaginal learners, we move beyond passive collectors of information into creators. We find the enchantment, the poetics of learning, and we can imagine entire universes into being. Learning becomes a spiraling generative process that invites us to continue to learn and to shape ourselves and our worlds.

So what would an imaginal education look like? Part of its beauty, and admittedly, its complexity, is that there isn’t one answer. It is an invitation for each learner to understand herself and the world around her as a classroom. It is about inviting wonder to be your partner, and continually asking “why” and “how” and “what if” about everything and everyone that crosses your path.

Since it is so vast, let me try to sketch out an example from a very small, prosaic beginning point: the number 32. I have a painful memory of standing in a classroom with flashing cards and spots before my eyes, trying to spit out multiplication tables. But in spite of that (mostly because I count on my fingers), I know that eight times four is thirty-two.

In an imaginal learning context, the flash cards are gone. The walls of the classroom are gone, replaced by a hillside on a quiet night where the stars seem made for counting, and infinity has a tangible and richly mythic presence. So I lie on my back, and imagine a life for the number 32. A combination of eight (a sideways symbol of infinity) and four (of the four elements) make up the sinuous and stable combination of thirty-two. I imagine its colors, its own suggestion of infinity when turned sideways – like three mountains and the beginnings of a fourth.

And then I begin to count. Eight constellations, each of four stars. Sixteen pairings of two. I remember the stories of the constellations. I make up poems with four stanzas of eight lines each, and drum out rhythms in 4/4 and 2/4 time. And then I explore 32 as a leaping point into other thoughts, other disciplines, awareness of myself and those around me. For example, in the Buddhist tradition, there are 32 body parts. How many can I count? And what lies underneath a philosophy that identifies the body this way? Or, I look to language. Balagtás Tagalog, one of the indigenous languages of the Philippines that is being replaced by a state sanctioned combination of Filipino and English, has 32 letters. What letters would I add to the English alphabet? And can I understand the despair of losing my language and the identity that goes with it?

As philosopher and mathematician Gaston Bachelard writes, imagination is “a voyage into the infinite.” Education is the most powerful when its goal isn’t overtly focused on what it will achieve for us, but instead when it is an open process that seduces us into searching for what we’ve not been able yet to see. It helps us not only to fit the puzzle pieces together, but to turn the pieces into the image that we have created.

In that voyage, we become infinite ourselves. And education stops being a metaphorical key to a brand new refrigerator and dining set that you vie for because you want to be a good consumer, but instead truly becomes something that is good for the entirety of the soul.

If you are approaching the end of high school and are ready to begin investigating colleges, there are several factors to consider before deciding what college is right for you. Whether you want to study medicine or painting, accounting or physical education, there are hundreds of colleges to choose from, each with their own specialized programs of study. Narrowing down your options can be a challenging task, but it is important to make an informed choice about where to continue your education.

When you are deciding which schools to which you would like to apply, you should first assess your chances of being accepted. If you are a C student with average test scores and no extra-curricular activities, you might not want to put all of your application eggs in one Ivy League basket. However, if you can afford to, you should always apply to the school of your dreams on the off chance that it just might come through for you. If you don’t try, you will never know whether or not you could have gotten in.

If you have made straight A’s throughout high school, have high SAT and ACT test scores and have participated in a wide variety of activities, you have high chances of getting into any school of your choice. Even if you have very limited finances to work with, you should still apply to your top choices. If you are accepted, you may be able to receive scholarships and financial aid, and you always have the option to take out student loans.

When it comes down to narrowing your choices, size is a very important thing to consider. Some people like extremely large universities with tens of thousands of students. However, others enjoy the comfort of a small campus with as few as several hundred students. There are also a variety of colleges that lie in between these two options. Though it is hard to know before you get there, you probably have a good idea of your general preferences regarding school size, and this will help you focus your search.

You should also consider whether you would like to go to a private or a public school. Private schools are typically more expensive, but some are also more prestigious. Private religiously-based schools are also an option. Virtually every faith runs at least on college in the United States, and most have several to choose from. If you would rather stick to secular schooling, state-supported schools are often your best financial deal. These schools receive support from the government, in addition to private funding, so they are typically less expensive and more able to offer larger financial aid packages.

Location is also an important factor to consider when you are choosing a college. Think about how close or how far away you would like to be from where you grew up. If you want to be within a day’s drive of home, consider local and regional schools. However, if you are looking for a cross-country adventure, you might consider schools in far away states or even consider studying abroad. Some fields of study are better suited to certain geographic locations, as well. For instance, artists can get a real-life education in New York City, whereas actors might consider schooling in California. If marine biology is your chosen field of study, a college with an aquatic location would obviously be the best choice. Geologists often flock to the southwest, and environmentalists often seek education in the northeast. You should consider both personal your climate preferences and your career goals when you are choosing a college location.

Though choosing a college can be stressful, it can also be fun. Remember that college is just the first step on your professional journey, and you will most likely change majors, interests, and possibly even change colleges before you finish your undergraduate degree. So, make a wise and informed choice with the knowledge that you will probably change your mind several times before it is all said and done.

In every life there are landmarks, where the life shifts to another plain. The first landmark in a child’s life comes when he/she starts walking. That gives the child freedom to act on their own. Going to school is another landmark, and graduation is a bigger landmark, because one gets the freedom to go out in the world and make one’s mark in professional world. Till we become a graduate, we only think of the future. After graduating, we get the power to mould our future.

Why Graduation is an important factor?

With graduation, we get a qualification that opens many doors for us. Graduation also brings us at par with millions of other graduates and gives us the pride of being a graduate. It changes our outlook towards life and suddenly we feel that we are responsible citizens who have to make contributions to society and also take ourselves forward in life to achieve our dreams. Till few centuries ago, when there was no formal education, there were no graduates. people used to act on their own at different ages. With the advent of formal education, the society gives us indicators about the future path.

How graduation helps achieving dreams ?

All of us have a dream. Ask a small child about his dream and you will get answers such as I want to become a big man like dad, or I want to become superman, or I want to become a pilot and such things. A child looks at certain people with awe and wants to emulate them. As he/she grows up, the reality dawns that there are many more fields to show one’s strength. With graduation, a child becomes an adult. He/she has to then work their own plan and make their dream real. If the next step
after graduation goes in the right direction, the future may open immense possibilities of growth. That is how graduation helps achieving dreams. A landmark that tells you that from here onward you are on your own. Go forward and conquer the world. Make your dreams real. Become a proud citizen, and make your country proud with your actions and achievements.
